Mark has volunteered as an activist to advocate for the rights of the
poor and disabled. He works to promote media democracy, civil and
human rights.
MTC is also committed to educating people about tech & media literacy,
social networking platforms, new media, and independedent D.I.Y. music
& multi-media production.
Mark has provided testimony for the Federal Communications Commission,
Seattle City Council, and various non-profit agencies.

MUSICIAN
Mark is also a musician and member of two Seattle alternative rock bands:
"The Galaxy Machine" and "The Revel Saints".

The band won an award from a Toronto music magazine and one of
their songs ("Sun Gods") was chosen for a compilation CD to raise funds
for breast cancer research. Part of the donations from the CD went to the foundation set up by Sir Paul McCartney in memory of his wife Linda.
Some of the other artists on the benefit CD, "Hope Is The Answer", include Ritchie Havens and Robert Fripp. The CD was produced by Grammy award winner Steve Zuckerman.
Mark Taylor-Canfield records and produces electronic music mixed with
samples as "DJ MTC". He has also composed and performed live film sound
tracks.
He was a member of the critically acclaimed Seattle music group Lucid.
The band recieved airplay on KEXP and was featured in US & European
music magazines.
Mark served as a member of the board of directors for the Northwest CyberArtists, a group of maverick tech and interactive multimedia artists
in Seattle. MTV reported on the activities of NW CyberArtists and their exhibit/performance at the legendary Speakeasy music/theater venue -
one of the first internet cafes in the US.
Mark Taylor-Canfield served as resident composer at the Univeristy of Washington's computer music center. His musique conrete compositions
were honored in France by the International Institute for Electro-Acoustic Music.
He traveled to Europe to see his piece "Third Dream From The Center of the
Left Eye" presented at an international music festival and competition in Bourges, France. Mark's composition was on the program of music during a concert at a beautiful and Renaissance palace - the famous Palais Jacques
Coeur in Bourges, France. Legends tell of alchemists leaving secret
arcane messages hidden in the stonework of the mysterious structure.
MTC's field recordings have been included in CD compilations including
a release by The Phonographers, a Seattle based field recording
and performance group which has presented concerts at the
University of Washington's Henry Art Gallery.
He's performed music as a solo artist at the world famous Pike Place Market,
and at art galleries and music venues throughout the Northwest including
the Washington Center for the Performing Arts., Capitol Theater,
Jewel Box Theater, Nectar, Hummingbird, El Corizon, etc. His multimedia art installations and sound experiments have been featured at galleries and performance spaces such as Center on Contemporary Art (COCA), On the
Boards, OK Hotel Gallery, Phantom Realms Gallery, INArtsNW, JEM Studios
and the NW CYberArtists and Washington Composers Forum.
Mark has also composed and performed soundtrack music for many silent
films including Alice In Wonderland, as well as movies based on Frank
Baum's books, and films directed by D.W. Griffith and George Melies .
ACTOR
MTC is also an actor who has performed in various theater productions including plays by William Shakespeare, David Ives and Tom Stoppard.
Mark was a member of the cast of "All In The Timing" which won an award: "Best of The Seattle Fringe Festival". As a result of this this success
the theater company performed the play at The Seattle Repertory Theater
at Seattle Center located near the city's most famous piece of architecture:
the Space Needle.
He has also acted in independent films, played a Greek priest in a History Channel series and was an extra in movies including "Life Or Something
Like It" with Angelina Jolie and "Battle In Seattle" with Charlize Theron,
Woody Harrelson and Andre 3000 from Outkast.
Mark is currently starring in a film noir style radio theater series as his own copyrighted character "Nick Savage, Private Eye" based on his
original novel set in Seattle circa 1947. MTC also writes some of the scripts
and produces the audio plays.

on BBC about international issues including the Occupy Wall Street
movement.

Mark gave public testimony on the negative effects of corporate media consolidation during a hearing with the Federal Communications
Commission.
In 2012 Mark won a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit against the Washington
State Patrol. Federal District Court Judge Robert J. Bryan ruled that his First Amendment Constitutional rights had been violated when he was illegally detained and banned from covering protests at the state capitol in
